Telecom Continues Its Expansion Of 027 Coverage And Services With Nine New Sites In The Auckland Region
Telecom Mobile has spent over $3 million to bring its state of the art 027 mobile phone services to more Auckland
customers.
Telecom has expanded its 027 network with the recent addition of improved facilities at Waiwera, Lonely Track Road
(Albany), Epsom, Te Atatu North, Whitford West, Wattle Downs, Red Hill, Symonds Overbridge and the Manurewa Interchange.
Telecom General Manager Mobile Networks, Stephen Crombie, says the new facilities will provide more mobile coverage and
increased capacity to the growing number of Telecom’s 027 Auckland customers.
The investment in the Auckland region is part of Telecom’s national expansion programme of the 027 mobile service. More
than 110,000 customers are already using the 027 phones and network. The service was launched in August 2001.
Telecom mobile customers in Auckland make over 26 million mobile phone calls each month on the 025 and 027 mobile
networks.
Telecom plans to add five more sites in the Auckland region to its 027 network by the end of June 2002. The new sites
will be located at Epsom South, Hobsonville, Kaikoura Island, Stanley Bay and Waiheke Island.
Customers using the 027 service have access to a wide range of voice, data and online products and services. The 027
service offers land-line like voice quality with reduced background noise, increased call capacity and two-way text
capability. It also provides high level security and faster data transmission speeds than previously available.
Customers can connect to the Internet and view web pages using a Wireless Application Protocol-capable (WAP) mobile
phone. They can send and receive emails, access the latest news and weather, and even do banking transactions using
their mobile phones.
Telecom customers using 027 can also use their phones in Australia, Hong Kong and Hawaii. In the USA and Canada roaming
is only available with the 027 Kyocera model. These countries account for around 80 percent of New Zealanders’ travel
destinations.
