Winter 2001's Wholesale Electricity Bids And Offers To Be Published.
Anyone interested in the wholesale electricity market's operation during winter 2001 can now freely examine the bids and
offers of electricity retailers and generators during the period.
NZEM has approved the one-off release of all the market's bids and offers for the period 1 January to 31 August 2001.
"We are aware of the significant public and industry interest in the events of winter 2001 and recognise the value of
providing transparency around Market Participants' behaviour leading up to and during this period," Rules Committee
chair Toby Stevenson said.
The data is to be released on COMIT free-to-air ( www.comitfree.co.nz) - a site providing free information on electricity prices, demand and hydrology to anyone
interested in New Zealand's electricity sector.
Raw data files containing the bids and offers can be downloaded from COMITfree for each day between 1 January and 31
August 2001. Each file details the company and its accepted bids or offers and the trading period and grid
exit/injection point to which they relate.
The market receives and processes a huge volume of data - this can be anywhere between 20,000 and 80,000 bids and offers
per day. Around 10,935,000 bids and offers relating to the first eight months of 2001 can now be viewed on COMITfree.
In addition, the NZEM Rules Committee are currently progressing a rule change proposal to allow the ongoing release of
bids and offers on both COMIT and COMITfree.
