WestpacTrust offers to relinquish WestpacTrust Stadium sponsorship rights for Rugby World Cup
WestpacTrust has offered to give up its key sponsorship rights for the WestpacTrust Stadium for the duration of the 2003 Rugby World Cup to help the NZRFU meet the International Rugby Board’s requirement for hosting counties to provide “clean” stadiums.
The offer includes removing all WestpacTrust signage at the stadium, covering WestpacTrust branding on stadium ATMs, relinquishing the bank’s corporate box rights and stadium memberships. The offer also extends to other grounds such as Eden Park, Carisbrook and Jade Stadium where WestpacTrust is a box holder.
“The opportunities afforded to all New Zealanders by the World Cup being hosted in New Zealand far outweigh the commercial considerations for WestpacTrust,” said Tim Harrington, WestpacTrust’s General Manager Marketing.
“Rugby is part and parcel of the New Zealand way of life. We are happy to relinquish our sponsorship rights for the duration of the 2003 World Cup in New Zealand for the greater good of New Zealand and New Zealand rugby.”
