DB Group Limited To Become Db Breweries Limited

Published: Mon 18 Mar 2002 12:23 AM
DB Group Limited is to amalgamate with wholly owned subsidiary DB Breweries Limited effective 1 April 2002. From this date, the amalgamated company will be known as DB Breweries Limited.
The amalgamation is the final step in the restructuring process which begun in 1999 and will provide some further overhead cost savings. The change of name reflects the fact that, following the sale of Corbans Wines Limited and NZ Liquor Limited, and the closure of Allied Liquor Merchants Limited, DB Group is no longer a "group" of companies, and that the focus is totally on DB Breweries Limited, and its franchising operation of Liquorland. The name, DB Breweries Limited, is well known throughout New Zealand, and internationally. It has been associated with the brewing, marketing and distribution of quality beer since 1929, when Dominion Breweries Limited commenced production at the present site in Otahuhu, Auckland.
Says Managing Director, Brian Blake, “DB’s aspirations are firmly focused on becoming New Zealand’s most valuable brewing company. Our Brewery portfolio includes the Waitemata Brewery in Otahuhu, Tui Brewery in Mangatainoka, Mainland Brewery in Timaru and Monteith’s Brewery in Greymouth, each of which is known for its innovation and brewing excellence. The name change reflects our commitment to continue to celebrate and brew great beers, grow our brand value and invest in our people.”
As from 1 April 2002, the New Zealand Stock Exchange code for the company will change to DBB.
