NEW ZEALAND POST SELECTS KPMG CONSULTING/PEOPLESOFT
New Zealand Post has selected a KPMG Consulting/PeopleSoft consortium as preferred supplier for its financial, procurement and inventory management system.
The selection completes a rigorous process that began with the issue of a Request For Proposal (RFP) in September last year with subsequent shortlisting of vendors in November. The RFP was issued after a 12-month internal review named Project Genesis found that incremental improvement of existing processes and systems would not deliver improvements required to meet New Zealand Post's needs.
Anne Smith, Group Financial Controller, said New Zealand Post needed to integrate its existing disparate financial systems to deliver a single company cashflow and information process and to deliver that information in a timely and cost efficient manner.
"Our overriding objective is the implementation of best practice financial, procurement and inventory management processes."
Mrs Smith said vendors participating in the RFP were assessed against pre-defined criteria and considered by a project team representing every business group within New Zealand Post.
"The KPMG Consulting/PeopleSoft solution stood out from both a functionality and a technical perspective. It is architected for the Internet, not just web-enabled, and met New Zealand Post's requirements for a 'plain vanilla' solution with very little customisation necessary."
Suri Bartlett, Managing Director of KPMG Consulting, said KPMG Consulting and Peoplesoft were excited at the prospect of partnering with New Zealand Post
"This initiative is more than just a technology implementation and aims to deliver a wider value proposition through process improvement."
The first phase of Project Genesis includes financial management and reporting functions including general ledger reporting, procurement, account payable, fixed assets management and projects. This is expected to be implemented by September this year.
As New Zealand Post's strategic IT partner, Datacom will provide facilities management services for the PeopleSoft solution and will work with the project to deliver the technical infrastructure.
