VODAFONE AUSTRALIA AND TELECOM NEW ZEALAND SIGN NETWORK SERVICES AGREEMENT
Telecom New Zealand and Vodafone Australia today announced the signing of a network services agreement.
Under the terms of the agreement, Telecom will purchase capacity at competitive wholesale prices and connect to Vodafone Australia’s network, whilst operating its own brand. Vodafone will manage all interconnect and roaming.
Telecom Mobile General Manager Mohan Jesudason said the agreement strengthens Telecom’s mobile position in Australia.
It enabled Cellular One, Telecom’s Australian mobile operator to provide a comprehensive service for customers. “We can develop products, rate plans, data and other services. This will ensure Cellular One can compete more effectively.”
“Developing our wholesale business segment is a core part of Vodafone Australia’s skill set,” said Vodafone Finance Director and Director of Wholesale Mr Mike Buckling. “The wholesale capacity agreement with TCNZ will ensure a strong partnership which will grow the utilisation and revenue generation of Vodafone’s network.”
The new relationship will lead to the creation of a new range of customer offerings in the Australian telecommunications market, which deploys the combined skills and resources of both Vodafone and Telecom. Under the deal, Telecom will connect equipment, such as intelligent network devices, to the Vodafone network.
In conjunction with the agreement, Telecom and Vodafone have identified a range of additional opportunities for the Telecom/AAPT Group to supply other services at competitive rates to Vodafone in Australia and New Zealand, whilst continuing to compete vigorously for the business of the end-user.
Mr Jesudason said the agreement would improve Cellular One’s business model, and would provide for greater future flexibility. Customers will benefit from Cellular One being able to create new products and pricing plans, including packages involving other AAPT services. He said Vodafone offered the best deal for Telecom and its customers.
The arrangement will start immediately.
