The Newspaper Publishers Association today announced the appointment of Mr Lincoln Gould as its next Chief Executive.
Mr Gould is currently Director of the Graduate School of Business and Government Management at Victoria University in
Wellington. He has held this position since 1999.
Mr Gould will succeed Mr Hamish Riach who was recently appointed Chief Executive of the Canterbury Rugby Union. Mr
Gould’s career spans a number of positions in journalism, communications, marketing and general management. Before
joining the staff of Victoria University, he was founding Chief Executive of the Marketplace Company (M-co), New
Zealand’s wholesale electricity market company. He held this position for six years.
Previous positions included Joint Chief Executive and General Manager, Marketing, of the NZ Futures & Options Exchange Ltd, and senior communications and management positions with William Press Group Ltd, London. He
started his career as a journalist on the Daily News, New Plymouth, and was also a senior reporter on the Western Daily
Press, Bristol.
Mr Gould’s new position will see him lead the NPA, the daily and Sunday newspaper industry’s trade association, as well
as the newspaper industry’s national advertising sales organisation, the Newspaper Advertising Bureau (NAB), and the
national news collection and distribution agency, the New Zealand Press Association (NZPA).
Announcing the appointment, NPA president Mr John Sanders, said Mr Gould was ideally equipped to lead newspapers’
national body.
“His background is strong in media, communications and management, and we look forward to having him join our industry.”
Mr Gould will take up his appointment in mid-January.
