“More In Store” For Children
Westfield New Zealand is pleased to announce that the Commissioner for Children, Hon. Roger McClay, will join with Sir Edmund Hillary as a patron for Westfield Works Wonders, the annual fundraising event which, working with Variety – the Children’s Charity, raises hundreds of thousand of dollars for charities.
Westfield Works Wonders is a unique after-hours charity shopping evening that allows customers to enjoy special store discounts, celebrity appearances and entertainment while helping their local communities.
The November 11 event will be held simultaneously at Westfield’s nine shopping centres in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch. Hon. Roger McClay will take part at Queensgate, Lower Hutt.
“It’s a great pleasure for me to become involved in this as it is a good example of excellent corporate citizenship which helps many charities that involve the children of New Zealand,“ said Roger McClay. “It is a special honour to join with one of New Zealand’s greatest citizens – Sir Edmund Hillary – as a patron.
“I am committed to helping Westfield double the amount of money that was raised last year in this second year of Westfield Works Wonders in New Zealand. We need to double our efforts in everything we advocate for our children. It is a great investment in our future society,” said Mr McClay.
Last year Westfield Works Wonders raised more than $340,000.00 for more than 600 charities.
Customers are invited to purchase tickets to attend the evening at their local centre and ticket proceeds will go directly to local charities, schools, hospitals, churches and youth organisations.
Of the $6 ticket price, $5 goes to the charity of the ticket holder’s choice and the remaining $1 is donated to Variety – the Children’s Charity.
The Westfield Works Wonders concept was first initiated at four Westfield centres in the northeastern United States in 1997. It was an immediate success and within three years the event grew to embrace the entire Westfield America portfolio.
So far this year more than 300 charities are participating in selling tickets, which have the potential to raise more than $550,000 with three weeks still to go until the event.
