"After a difficult period of seven months negotiation, PSA members at Radio New Zealand yesterday ratified their new
collective agreement which expired on 31 March this year", said Richard Wagstaff PSA National Secretary
"We are pleased to have this settled, and it is now time for the PSA and RNZ management to work together on the issues
confronting PSA members and management at RNZ. "
"Our members demonstrated the strength of their feeling by taking strike action in support of a new collective
agreement, and while that has been achieved the union will continue to engage with RNZ in support of our members and
quality public radio."
The new collective covers all PSA members at Radio NZ apart from a very small number in senior positions. It also
covers casuals and temporary employees.
Part of the settlement was the withdrawal of the employer's claim to remove the right of employee's agreement when
changing hours of work or rosters.
The main points are.
* A 2 year term 1 April 2001 to 31 March 2003.
* 2% increase backdated to 1 July 2001 for all those covered by the collective agreement at the date of signing. A
further 2% increase for those covered by the collective on 1 July 2002.
* Staff who work more than 20 qualifying shifts will be entitled to one day's leave for every 10 qualifying shifts
worked. Maximum of 5 days per year.
* New Employees including casuals and temporary will have the opportunity to be covered by the collective if they join
the union.
