Clive James New Zealand Visit Causes Online Traffic Surge
12 September 2001: Last week’s visit to New Zealand by writer and television presenter Clive James has shown an
immediate impact on the traffic to the online ventures he is involved with - WelcomeStranger ( www.welcomestranger.com ) and Kiwi in London ( www.kiwiinlondon.com ).
The innovative WelcomeStranger broadcasting channel, which offers web-cast interviews conducted by James in video and
audio leapt almost 150,000 places in the overall Hitwise rankings last week, reaching 28th in the ‘Entertainment –
Television’ category on 28 August. It overtook both the TV 4 and the “Bob the Builder” websites!
Meanwhile Kiwi in London, a site dedicated to Kiwis visiting or staying in London, also increased its audience
dramatically during his visit. The site, which features an archive of James’ articles in ‘Clive’s Corner’, rose almost
4000 places to be 173rd overall and reached 12th in the ‘Travel’ category for the week ending 9 September.
The cross promotion of both sites during James’ visit is also clear from Hitwise Click Stream data, with the two sites
delivering traffic to each other throughout last week. 3% of visits to WelcomeStranger arrived via the Kiwi in London
site, which in turn received 2.4% of visits from WelcomeStranger.
