New Zealand Writers' Web-Site Goes International

Published: Mon 23 Jul 2001 10:23 AM
Writerfind, which has been working with New Zealand-based freelance writers and editors since 1998, recently launched its service internationally.
"The site was set up in 1998 as a NZ-only site. Since then we've received a huge number of enquiries from outside New Zealand. There is clearly a big demand worldwide for a service of this type," says Dr. Nicole Bishop, who runs the web-site. "Many of the existing sites for freelance writers are US-centred, and do not cater well to the needs of an international freelance market."
The Writerfind web-site includes biographical information of professional freelance writers and editors across the globe - in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, Canada, Europe, USA. It also includes an international freelance job board and mailing list, which specialises in international telecommuting work and reaches approx 3000 subscribers worldwide.
Freelancers are 'pre-vetted' before being listed on the web-site to ensure that they have reasonable professional experience, but no face-to-face interviews are involved, and the final selection process is left to employers.
"Writerfind fills a much-needed 'middle ground' between recruitment agencies and free-for-all job and resume posting sites", says Nicole Bishop. "Recruitment agencies can be very costly for employers, while free-for-all job and resume sites can be very time-consuming for jobseekers -- a lot of time can be wasted sifting through irrelevant jobs. By targeting a specific industry, the Writerfind service aims to save time for jobseekers and to reduce search and selection costs for those who hire them."
