TVNZ's Complaints Committee has partially upheld the formal complaint by TVNZ's chairman Dr Ross Armstrong in relation
to a ONE News item screened on 9 May.
In its response, the TVNZ Complaints Committee determined there had been a breach of the Broadcasting Standards relating
to fairness and balance. The remainder of Dr Armstrong's complaint was not upheld by the Complaints Committee.
It was the Complaints Committee's decision that it was unfair to Dr Armstrong to omit his comment concerning the Head of
News and Current Affairs appointment as being a "critical management decision."
In its response to Dr Armstrong, the TVNZ Complaints Committee also determined that the omission of this comment meant
that the item lacked balance.
Both TVNZ Chief Executive Rick Ellis and Dr Armstrong have stated that they are satisfied with the Complaints
Committee's decision and that the matter is now closed. Neither Dr Armstrong nor Mr Ellis will be making any further
comment.
