Building Consents Issued: May 2001
The value of non-residential building consents issued in May 2001 was $255.7 million, according to Statistics New
Zealand. This is the largest monthly value since November 2000.
Consents issued for hospitals and nursing homes contributed $40.2 million to the total value of non-residential building
consents for May 2001. Education buildings contributed $38.3 million.
Building consents for 1,856 new dwelling units, worth $270.6 million, were issued in May 2001. This follows 1,585 new
dwelling units authorised in April 2001. After adjusting for normal seasonal fluctuations, the number of new dwelling
units authorised in May 2001 decreased when compared with April 2001.
The trend in the number of new dwelling units authorised has been increasing slightly over the last few months, after
falling by a third between August 1999 and December 2000.
The total value of building consents issued in May 2001 was $593.7 million.
