SAP To Deliver Integrated Learning Management Solution
* New solution helps organisations embrace new methods of training, education and services
At the International Human Resources Information Management (IHRIM) Conference 2001 in San Diego, SAP (NYSE: SAP) announced the delivery of the Learning Management solution as part of mySAP.com and with tight integration to mySAP Human Resources (mySAP HR) offering. Customers of mySAP HR, mySAP Customer Relationship Management (mySAP CRM) and mySAP Public Sector will all benefit from the uniqueness of the Learning Management solution.
The new solution is a complete learning management system that provides role-based educational content tailored to individual learning styles and specific training needs for a company’s employees, partners and customers. The Learning Management solution meets companies’ increasing demand to facilitate the transfer of knowledge, collaborate on training internally or with third-party companies, align corporate strategy and learning objectives, and reduce overall training costs.
* Benefits of the Learning Management Solution The Learning Management solution provides a combination of features that can be extended to the employees, customers and partners of a company. These features include the ability to push role-based information to the learner according to his or her personal preferences, create learning content, tests and certifications to share and reuse globally, and leverage SAP Portals’ Enterprise Collaboration Portal. Users can select courses, review training history, or transfer qualifications and test results to the appropriate contact within a company. Historical information about each individual learner is stored in a learner account, and reusable learning tools are stored in a Web-based content repository for future reference.
The new solution provides integration with mySAP HR, allowing companies to further extend their SAP technology investment. For example, customers can have better tracking of human capital development through the mySAP HR qualifications catalog and have tighter integration with billing and finance systems. The new solution also enables companies to recognise direct financial benefits by generating a revenue stream for external training activities, as well as reduce travel costs by utilising the online learning environment. In addition, the Learning Management solution can be implemented as a stand-alone offering to extend other areas of the enterprise.
“The need for an organisation to adapt to new and flexible learning methods, as well as provide employees with better mechanisms for accessing information, is of critical importance in providing employees with more up-to-date information that they can take anywhere, increasing their effectiveness and motivation in the new economy,” said Elena Ordonez, senior vice president of GBU Human Capital Management at SAP AG. “The Learning Management solution provides employees with better access to educational tools and a more dynamic and personal learning environment for professional growth, which results in higher job satisfaction and improved employee retention.”
* Multiple Organisations to Benefit From the Learning Management Solution Various types of organisations can leverage the new solution to achieve specific benefits. For example, companies will leverage the Learning Management solution to reduce administration and travel costs and optimise the use of valuable and limited HR resources. In addition, companies can use the solution to roll out information and train and certify their business partners and customers across the globe, keeping all stakeholders informed at a reasonable expense.
Universities and other public institutions will be able to broaden their customer base by offering courses to students who cannot physically attend lectures.
Marketplace makers will be able to offer their customers an extra service in the form of learning accessed directly from the marketplace. Groups of companies in the same line of business will be able to use a common platform to share noncritical learning objects and courses to keep costs down.
*Availability The pilot phase for the new solution began in June 2001, and general availability is planned for the second quarter of 2002. The new solution can be integrated with an existing SAP system or implemented as a stand-alone offering.
