Telecom Mobile Pilots CDMA Network - Final Stage Before Full Commercial Roll-Out
Telecom Mobile Limited has begun its nation-wide CDMA pilot programme, with 2,000 customers, staff and dealers. The
pilot programme represents a very important step towards the full commercial roll-out of the CDMA network in New
Zealand.
“We have asked a selection of customers to give us feedback on their experiences with the new network so we can offer
the best range of available services when we launch commercially ,” said Lorraine Witten, General Manager of Mobile
Networks.
“We have identified a cross-section of customers representing four distinct groups – corporate, small business, family,
and youth.” Customers will be asked to fill in a number of online questionnaires to gauge their feedback on areas such
as call quality, coverage, handsets and services.
"The pilot is going well and we can confirm that we are on track for the launch of CDMA in the next few weeks. The pilot
is structured to operate as long as necessary to ensure the CDMA network is ready for commercial launch. We are
committed to a successful launch of the new network and services and will launch when we are satisfied that all quality
standards are met.”
“We are confident that once customers experience the excellent coverage, clarity and sophisticated functionality of the
network, they will be convinced of the obvious benefits of using CDMA now and for the future,” said Ms Witten.
About CDMA CDMA stands for Code Division Multiple Access, and is the technology basis for the international 3G standards
under IMT-2000. There are now over 30 different countries with CDMA networks, with over 90 million mobile subscribers
worldwide.
