Philip Rock has been appointed to the position of Product Marketing Specialist, with leading New Zealand software
developer Delphic Medical Systems.
In August 2000 Delphic signed an agreement with Sysmex, a giant Japanese Analyser company to distribute Delphic’s
clinical information systems throughout Europe, the US and Southeast Asia. Philip’s role is to make marketing material
available to Delphic distributors, using the latest web technology to make access instant and easy.
Philip’s background is in Applied Science and Analytical Chemistry, specialising in Environmental Chemistry. Research on
the toxicity of trace metals won Philip an academic bursary to study in the USA, where he studied at The Robert Wood
Johnson Medical School in New Jersey.
Since then Philip has worked for Philips Scientific/Unicam Ltd, a scientific instrument manufacturer in Cambridge, where
he worked closely with distributors in supporting existing customers and developing new business opportunities in Europe
and North America.
Then came a move to a technical consultancy group called The Technology Partnership, based near Cambridge. Philip was
responsible for customer support and training regarding the development and implementation of new instrumental methods
of synthesis for drug discovery. This included the use of cutting edge software and robotics and gave him the
opportunity to work closely with an international consortium of blue chip pharmaceutical companies.
The desire for a lifestyle change brought Philip to the Southern Hemisphere and a position managing the Applications
Group at GBC Scientific Equipment in Melbourne, Australia. Here Philip worked on the relationship between marketing,
development, and customer support with particular emphasis on developing the distributor/customer relationship. This
role gave Philip valuable experience with business operations in the Asia Pacific markets, including Southern Asia and
Australasia.
