Announcement From TVNZ CEO

Published: Wed 9 May 2001 03:49 PM
The Chief Executive of TVNZ, Mr Rick Ellis said today:
"The process for the appointment of a new Managing Editor of News and Current Affairs has begun. I must stress that it is a management-led process save for the approval of the appropriate remuneration package which may require to be referred to the Board Human Resources and Remuneration Sub-Committee.
I would like again to place on record that the outgoing Managing Editor, Paul Cutler, has served the company with absolute integrity and professionalism during a long and distinguished career spanning 20 years. It will not be easy to find a replacement of his calibre."

Further statement from TVNZ
The Chief Executive of TVNZ, Mr Rick Ellis has clarified TVNZ's position on future digital transmission as a result of comment in this morning's Independent.
TVNZ's strategy has not changed. We have always been willing to see TV ONE and TV2 on any digital platform, including Sky, providing the appropriate commercial terms have been met. To date those terms have been agreed with TelstraSaturn but have yet to be agreed with Sky. However discussions are ongoing.
Mr Ellis said the terms of any negotiations are those necessary to protect TVNZ and the nation's interest in the future digital environment.
