Gaming Machine Trusts Association Formed
Six major charitable trusts which last year distributed $78 million to amateur sporting and community organisations from
the proceeds of gaming machines, have joined together to form an industry based association.
They are:
- Community Grants Foundation Inc,
- The Lion Foundation
- GoldTmes Foundation
- New Zealand Community Trust
- Scottswood Trust
- Southern Regions Charitable Trust.
Between them these Trusts represent approximately 45 percent of the gaming machine industry in New Zealand. Other major
Trusts are being invited to join the new industry association.
The GMTA will be headed by an independent Chair, Christchurch lawyer, Grant Cameron.
“The formation of the Association is very timely as there is a need for a more representative voice for Trusts which
operate gaming machines,” Mr Cameron said.
“It is important that the public is made aware that the Trusts operating gaming machines do so in a responsible way.
“All members of the GMTA are registered Charitable Trusts raising much needed funds for community causes, and our
members intend to ensure an ethics factor is high on our agenda.
“We will also be seeking representation as a full member of the Problem Gambling Committee. The new Association will be
taking a responsible approach in the interests of the public, players and the community,” Mr Cameron said.
