Entries for the prestigious 2001 Tourism Awards, which closed on Friday, have been received from all around New Zealand,
Tourism Industry Association spokesman Simon King said today.
“The geographic spread is very encouraging with entries from tourism business up and down the country. The number of
entrants is up on last year, which is also pleasing.
“This is the second year that the Tourism Awards have been run in alignment with the ‘Baldridge Awards Criteria’ which
looks at overall business excellence as well as what makes the entrant a good tourism enterprise.
“All entrants receive feedback about their entry, which means that even if they do not make the finals, the entry
exercise has been worthwhile as a tool to help tourism operators manage their businesses better,” Mr King said.
“All entry’s remain confidential until the finalists are announced at a gala dinner on May 20, as part of the TRENZ
tourism trade show.
“The judging panel will now get to work assessing the entrants and coming up with the lists of finalists.
“The winners will be announced at the New Zealand Tourism Conference in Rotorua in August,” Mr King said.
