Resolution To Pacific Arena Negotiations

Successful Resolution To Pacific Arena Negotiations
There has been a successful outcome to negotiations with parties objecting to the resource consent granted to the planned Pacific Arena. The agreement will remove potential delays to the Arena project.
Discussions between the Counties Manukau Pacific Trust and the two appellants were held recently, and have achieved a speedy resolution.
The objectors were the Seventh Day Adventist Church and Housing NZ.
Manukau City Council City Manager Colin Dale says “As the regulating authority, the Council is pleased that a resolution has been reached. Objections to planned developments are commonplace, and appeals over the Pacific Arena were to be expected.
“It is sensible that the objections process allows for resolution of differences outside the formal legal processes, and that good faith negotiations take place. I was hopeful from the start that the negotiations over the Arena would reach a quick conclusion,” he said.
Richard Jeffery, Chief Executive of the Trust, says that when plans for the Arena were being drawn up, the Trust consulted widely with all parties who might be affected by or had an interest in the development. As a result most issues were dealt with early in the planning process.
The resolution that has been reached will take another two weeks to take effect due to the administrative processes involved.
There remains one outstanding objector, a third party “piggybacking” on the two formal appellants. But Mr Jeffery believes there will be a resolution of issues raised in this case.
