Invercargill Manufactures Supplies BT Global Challenge
Back Country Foods Limited an Invercargill based food manufacture is getting a name in the adventure world for their
Back Country Cuisine’s high nutritional quality. The company is supplying freeze-dried meals to yachts in the BT Global
Challenge. The yachts are in Wellington and leave on the next leg to Sydney on Sunday 18 February.
Back Country Foods Limited have supplied main meal requirements for the Compaq team for the entire race. The Compaq team
is currently second in the BT Global Challenge. Three other teams will enjoy the cuisine during the Sydney leg of the
race including the current leader LG Flatron.
Auckland Sports Dietician Jeni Pearce has developed the food and nutrition programme plan for the Compaq team to ensure
that all the team members get the energy and nutrients necessary for the strenuous journey without losing condition.
Mean while Back Country Foods manufactures the high nutritional quality food. Arthur Ballantyne Managing Director of
Back Country Foods says “That the partnership is gaining recognition in long-distance yachting circles. We have
increased our range of meals from twelve to over twenty for the Compaq team. It is important they have variety for the
long race. We supply desserts, vegetables and even salads”.
Space is at a premium on the yachts, therefore a special packing system has been established to pack all the food for
the eighteen-team members.
The Back Country Foods, Jeni Pearce combination is supplying food to Team Adventure in The Race, and to Ellen MacArthur
in the Vendee Globe single-handed race.
