First Cracks Appear in Employment Relations Act

The first cracks in the ERA are beginning to appear as predicted by the ACT party during the introduction of the
Government’s industrial law, ACT’s Rural Affairs Spokesman Owen Jennings said.
“The latest dispute involving veterinarians employed by the government in meat plants around New Zealand follows the
continuing debacle on the wharves that has yet to be resolved.
“It is vital that the mediation in the dispute involving the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Verification Authority
is restarted and that a successful conclusion is reached. The next few weeks are vital for the meat industry, as farmers
affected by the dry spell need killing space. Meat processing works will be reaching capacity as the normal influx of
autumn killing begins,” Owen Jennings said.
