South Catlins Promotions are currently carrying out visitor research based at Curio Bay over the summer months. Already one month into the survey time frame, visitors seem to be impressed with the Catlins area and are keen for the area to maintain its current values.
This visitor research is part of a bigger project – “South Catlins Product Development Strategy”. With the assistance of Jackie Kruger from the Southland District Council the group obtained funding for the strategy and visitor research.
Two local residence have been employed to survey the visitors at Curio Bay. The survey is taking place on Tuesday and Thursday’s each week.
Ann McKenzie president for South Catlins Promotions says “That the timing of the research and strategy is critical for the South Catlins area. We are seeing an increase in visitor numbers to the area and need to plan for our future. Residence in the area value the environment and their lifestyle.”
The visitor research will be completed at the end of March 2001. Recently local residence had their opportunity to have their say on future development in Tokanui. The strategy will be completed by the end of June next year.
