PeopleSoft Ships Industry’s First Pure Internet eBusiness Enterprise Software In Australasia
AUCKLAND – October 11, 2000 – PeopleSoft today announced it has begun shipping PeopleSoft 8, the industry’s first pure internet eBusiness enterprise software.
Launched in July, PeopleSoft 8 is an entirely new generation of eBusiness applications. Taking two and a half years to develop, and an investment of US$500 million, PeopleSoft 8 requires no software on the client and is delivered entirely through an internet browser. Leveraging standards such as XML to ease integration with other systems, PeopleSoft 8 allows organisations to create collaborative networks of customers, employees and suppliers, and delivers lowered IT and process costs for the organisation.
Regional Vice President of PeopleSoft Asia-Pacific, Andrew Barkla, said a number of major companies throughout Australasia and Asia have already expressed interest in transitioning their enterprise to the new platform.
“Customers across the region have been crying out for this level of functionality, combined with ease of deployment, and are very excited about its potential to reduce their total cost of ownership, while delivering powerful capabilities for collaboration and eBusiness,” he said.
Powered by the PeopleSoft 8 Internet Architecture, the suite includes PeopleSoft’s re-engineered 108 best-in-class products such as Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Supply Chain Management, Enterprise Performance Management, Human Resource Management (HRMS), Financials and Learning Solutions, with specific vertical solutions having been developed for the Financial Services, Telecommunications, Government, Professional Services, Education, Consumer Products, High Technology, Utilities, Distribution and Health Care industries.
At the heart of PeopleSoft 8 lies the release of its 59 pure internet collaborative applications.
Stewart Gibbs, New Zealand Manager, PeopleSoft New Zealand says, “Our collaborative applications have increased PeopleSoft’s product offering substantially. By giving customers a full range of solutions to choose from we enable them to build valuable relationships with their own customers, employees and suppliers.”
“By doing this, organisations increase their competitiveness by extending business processes beyond the enterprise, enabling the seamless exchange of ideas, information, products and services,” he added.
Collaborative applications such as PeopleSoft eProcurement, PeopleSoft eRecruit and PeopleSoft Travel and Expense extend specific business processes to PeopleSoft MarketPlace - a trading exchange that allows PeopleSoft customers to conduct business-to-business eCommerce with a community of suppliers offering a wide range of goods and services.
Applications for Financials facilitate frontline support and decisions including eBill Payment and Balanced Scorecard, whilst PeopleSoft’s pure internet applications for mobile commerce offers customers, salespeople, and field service professionals anytime access to critical information – and is the only eBusiness company to offer a pure internet platform for mobile commerce.
In addition, in order to provide value quickly for new customers implementing PeopleSoft 8, PeopleSoft Consulting has introduced Accelerated Lifecycle Consulting (ALC) – which provides a clear path to the internet for PeopleSoft’s more than 4,000 current customers.
CEO Craig Conway believes the release of PeopleSoft 8 puts the company at least 12 months ahead of the competition, a position that has been reinforced by comments from the industry’s leading analysts.
According to Gartner Group, “The PeopleSoft architecture challenges SAP’s and Oracle’s offerings with superior messaging and API offerings that will facilitate integration. Additional strengths include an improved user interface and product version independence that could substantially lower the cost of ownership.”
Gibbs says PeopleSoft 8 will change the landscape of eBusiness throughout Australasia and represents PeopleSoft’s emergence as a true internet company.
