gen-i Announces Total Systems Solution Agreement for TranzRail’s IT Infrastructure
Auckland – September 28, 2000 – Internet Integrator gen-i limited, has announced a major outsourcing agreement with TranzRail Limited, New Zealand's leading multi-modal transport company, to supply a total systems solution for their IT infrastructure.
The outsourcing agreement, which commenced earlier this month, will see a number of significant benefits for TranzRail through an ongoing technology initiative program to reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). These benefits will be improved service delivery, a reduction in internal costs and improvement in productivity.
As part of the agreement, TranzRail’s existing IT infrastructure will be upgraded. gen-i will be responsible for supplying, replacing and upgrading 1,500 desktop PCs and server equipment. Services to be provided are asset management, installation, support and management of the desktop PC’s and installation, support and management of the NT & Unix servers. gen-i will manage the LAN, conduct system management processes, provide helpdesk support and deliver service level reports.
TranzRail CIO, Bruce Caldwell, says gen-i systematically proposed a customised solution which fulfilled all of TranzRail’s requirements. “We have been impressed by gen-i’s clear customer focus and experience in the segment, which was demonstrated during the evaluation process and its willingness to learn the business by understanding and meeting TranzRail’s needs.”
"We are proud to be working with TranzRail,” says gen-i CEO, Garth Biggs. “It is clearly a leading business in a crucial industry. Its business places significant and demanding requirements on its IT infrastructure and ensuring that this infrastructure is effective and ready and able to support these needs is a core gen-i capability."
In addition to upgrading the IT infrastructure, the partnership sees a transformation process put in place to ensure TranzRail’s systems process is business enabled to be world class player in the transport industry. gen-i will support IT transformation projects, whereby it invests capital into funding the investigation of technology initiatives. Initiatives will be analysed through a TCO model and assessed for their potential return on investment benefit to TranzRail’s IT strategy.
“Our objective is to assist TranzRail in maintaining a real competitive advantage through the use of world class technologies and our industry best practices,” says Bob Morton, General Manager Southern Region, gen-i limited.
“TCO is a worldwide standard that identifies companies that excel in their business decision making. We are extremely confident with the current transformation process being put in place that TranzRail will align their business to meet this standard within the next couple of years.
“As the relationship develops we have no doubt that we will both add value to each others business.”
