Parliament's Question Time Broadcast To The World Via The Internet
TVNZ has today welcomed the announcement by the Speaker of the House, the Rt Hon Jonathon Hunt that Parliament's question time is being webcast to the world from today.
Last week it was announced that ONE News would be filming Question Time and making the broadcast available live for television, initially on the Sky Television pay service.
Now it has been decided to make further use of that televised material by screening it as streamed video on TVNZ's website, nzoom.com. In a first for New Zealand, nzoom.com will live video stream Parliamentary Question Time from 2.00-2.45pm every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday that the House is in session.
Streamed video is the ability to play moving images and sound on the internet.
nzoom.com is available to anyone in the world with an internet connection. It is the largest user of streamed video in New Zealand and is one of the largest users of this new technology in the world.
TVNZ Chief Executive, Rick Ellis says, "Using streaming video to broadcast Parliament's question time is a logical move. Not only can it be screened live to any computer with an internet connection but it is also available for replay at a time that suits the users.
"We would hope that putting Parliament on nzoom.com opens up the exposure of the New Zealand Parliament to a worldwide audience. We certainly expect that it will be an attraction to New Zealanders whether they live here or overseas."
