With the number of Internet users set to double in the next two years* the time is ripe for a new magazine catering for mainstream consumers and small business people as they progress from Internet "newbies" to regular users.
This new title is Net Magazine, to be launched in December with an initial distribution of 30,000 copies, accompanied by a multimedia promotional blitz. The publisher is IDG Communications, home of established technology titles such as PC World and Computerworld, the business magazine Unlimited, and the supersite IDGNet (www.idg.net.nz).
Net Magazine answers the needs of the fast growing population of prospective, new and advancing Internet users thirsty for a publication that offers practical, plain-English advice about using the Internet: from reviews of the products they need to get online, pointers to great Web sites, to step-by-step advice about common tasks such as creating a Web site - from a beginner perspective through to extra-for-experts.
Says Net Magazine editor, award winning journalist Chris Keall, "Existing publications talk to first generation adopters, often in language that home users find baffling, and business people have no patience for. With Net Magazine we'll deliver a magazine that is practical, readable and entertaining."
The new magazine builds on the success of IDG's earlier single issue publication Net Beginner which sold out across the country earlier in the year.
Amongst many messages of thanks from satisfied readers of Net Beginner, this one is representative of the reader need for Net Magazine:
"I got on the Net four months ago and, with no previous experience, set out to learn the hard way. Got help from friends, books and Help menus but gave up buying computer magazines as the techno-jargon was way over my head. But there was so much more I needed to know and could not get information
at my level. I stumbled on the last copy of Net Beginner in a local store and what a relief! I have read every single word and it has been wonderful to feel comfortable with the language and it has given me the courage to try new things." _____________________________________________________ Each month Net Magazine will feature: ·extended "Here's How" guides - in plain English, step-by-step advice and
infographics. "These Net Beginner" special sections will also feature extra-for-experts and components that will appeal to a broad range of users. ·product reviews: the latest hardware, software and Internet services ·news, site reviews, columns (including an e-commerce section for small business), ISP directory Net Magazine's Web site Net Magazine's Web site will complement the magazine's here's-how focus, featuring: · Online tutorials and back issue content · A Net Magazine search engine · A Net Magazine online help forum · Daily news · Freeware and shareware downloads *According to market researcher IDC, the numbers of mainstream consumers and small business people online will double in the next three years.
