National Mail brings 30 cent postage to Wellington
30 cents per letter, including postage, envelope and GST - that’s the offer from National Mail to Wellington businesspeople as from today.
National Mail Chief Executive, Antony Fowler, said that the special offer, on large packs of pre-paid envelopes, was introduced to mark the company’s expansion into the capital after more than a year’s successful operation in the Auckland region.
He said the rate was possible because of National Mail’s sophisticated database technology and its ability to work with businesses to achieve maximum efficiency in mail collection, sorting and delivery.
“By using our prepaid envelopes, businesses posting letters to customers in either the greater Wellington or Auckland areas will be able to significantly reduce their mailing costs. In addition, we can offer even greater savings to businesses with volume or special mail requirements,” Mr Fowler said.
“What we are doing is passing on to our customers the full benefits of competition in a deregulated postal environment.”
National Mail began its Wellington service last week and, over the weekend, began installation of its distinctive blue street letterboxes to handle business reply paid mail.
Nearly 40 boxes were installed in the central business districts of Wellington and Lower Hutt and over the next few weeks, will be installed in Wellington suburbs as well as Porirua and Upper Hutt.
Mr Fowler said the boxes were specially designed to be more than simply a repository for National Mail letters.
“The boxes will also accept mail lodged using Pete’s Post stamps,” Mr Fowler said.

“In addition, the boxes have interchangeable panels on their sides which can be used for the display of useful community information.
“Its all part of our philosophy of offering the best service we can to businesses while doing our bit for the community at the same time.
“Of course, the community also benefits in other ways from our operation. In the Wellington region alone, we are creating over 50 new jobs and we will continue to employ more people as our operation grows further.”
National Mail is a registered postal operator, listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange, offering efficient mail services the greater Auckland and Wellington regions.
