Media Release 28th July 2000
Flash Banner Ensures Quick Clicks
Internet advertising is rapidly emerging as a strategic tool in the battle for online customers.
One new novel tactic seeking to stimulate web visitors is the use of Flash multimedia banners that actively push passive
eyeballs to particular sites.
Leading e-finance site, http://www.quicken.co.nz is one of the few advisers in New Zealand using Flash technology in
banner advertisements online.
They credit their marketing success in part to using the innovative new format for delivering their advertising message.
"This has been the first major flash banner campaign that Xtra has deployed. Generating a click through rate that is up
to three times more effective than traditional website banners. We hope that more sites move to accepting flash format
banners" says Chief Executive Officer, Quicken.co.nz, Russell Hutchinson.
Quicken.co.nz has attracted impressive traffic levels in the e-finance sector through an innovative advertising campaign
devoting 70% of budget towards print and 30% dedicated to online advertising activities.
Tammy Hendrick, Internet Business Development Manager, Wilson & Horton Interactive, similarly supports the move from traditional media toward web advertising.
"Companies wanting to talk about their website advertise it on TV and radio, when their first line of attack should be
people who are only a click away".1
Recent studies by the US based Internet Advertising Bureau show that internet advertising revenues exceed US$3 billion
annually and the category is growing far faster than traditional mass media advertising vehicles like television and
print. 2
However, in New Zealand the online advertising industry still represents less than 1 percent of the total NZD$1.4
billion advertising industry overall.3
