New leaders Appointed for gen-i Infrastructure and Ventures Business Groups
AUCKLAND, Thursday July 13, 2000 – Two key appointments for Internet Integrator gen-i limited (formerly Wang New
Zealand) of Stephen Gilbert and Cherry Vanderbeke have been made to lead two major business groups.
Stephen Gilbert has been appointed General Manager for gen-i’s new Infrastructure group. Stephen has been both a
customer and a provider of IT services across many industries in the past 20 years. This has provided Stephen with an
extensive knowledge of both sides of the IT service relationship and gives him a strategic view of applied IT in
real-world business terms.
Focusing on client needs in enterprise enabling platforms, Infrastructure is at the forefront of leading-edge
technologies such as thin-client, remote management, active directory, and wireless. It also provides innovation in
messaging, security, operating systems and technology design. The group’s capabilities include technology design and
implementation, project management, business consultancy, facilities management and remote management.
More recently, Stephen Gilbert was General Manager of Premier Print Services and prior to this, General Manager of Focus
Travel - roles in which Stephen utilised IT to leverage business success. Stephen has also held general management roles
in IT, Logistics and Sales and Marketing.
Cherry Vanderbeke has been appointed General Manager for the Ventures group. Responsible for the division charged with
internet innovation, Cherry will lead the company’s activities in building internet sites, intranets and extranets as
well as developing, implementing and supporting a wide range of e-commerce and business applications.
Central to the Ventures group’s success is their strong integration capability in best of breed software and disparate
systems to optimise internal operations and external supply chains.
“We are at the forefront of the digital economy, especially in the areas of business to business and business to
employee solutions,” says Cherry. “gen-i has proven success by leveraging off the things that it does exceptionally well
- we are expert integrators, capable of understanding that there is much more to a successful application than the
technology itself. Clients rely on us to make the technology work for their businesses – both strategically and
operationally – and that is where we excel.”
Prior to joining gen-i four years ago, Cherry Vanderbeke was a senior management consultant with Coopers & Lybrand, specialising in business process design and organisational change management. She has also held management,
technical and senior consulting roles at Unisys and Digital Equipment Corporation.
