The Italian Chamber Of Commerce For New Zealand Opens In Wellington
On the initiative of a group of entrepreneurs, both Italian and of Italian origin, and joined by a number of New
Zealanders interested in the development of economic relations with Italy, the Italian Chamber of Commerce for New
Zealand has been inaugurated in Wellington.
The Chamber, which will belong to the Association of Italian Chambers of Commerce abroad, aims to provide to Italian and
New Zealand operaters services of assistance, promotion, information and all useful support intended to facilitate trade
relations between the companies of both countries.
Established only a few months since the affirmation and broad consensus in New Zealand which has developed out of
Italy's participation in the America's Cup, the Chamber - promoted in agreement with the Embassy of Italy in Wellington
- has also as its objective that of consolidating and further developing the strong gro wth of Italian exports which
took place last year (in excess of 11.7% according to the Italian Institute of Statistics ISTAT with a surplus of around
50 billion Lire), and is set in a context of expectations of cooperation and of strong demand for Italian goods and
technology and will also be able to create spaces and opportunies for investment in the New Zealand market also in the
perspective of incentives launched by the Government led by Helen Clark.
Dr Piero Sella, an Italian lawyer resident in Wellington, has been appointed President of the Chamber whilst the
position of Honorary President is conferred on the Ambassador of Italy to New Zealand, Roberto Palmieri.
