Telecom Offers Service To Freedom Customers
Telecom New Zealand today announced that its 025 contract with pre-paid mobile phone company Freedom had been terminated for non payment of debts. Telecom was continuing service to the estimated 60,000 customers of Freedom.
Freedom, a subsidiary of Cedos Group Holdings Limited, has been operating a mobile phone service on the Telecom mobile network. Prolonged non-payment of bills amounting to several million dollars forced Telecom to terminate Freedom’s contract on July 11.
“Our first concern is that Freedom customers are not disadvantaged by the termination of the contract,” Telecom’s General Manager Mobile, Mohan Jesudason said.
“With the Freedom service ceasing to exist, customers will find that any call value on their phone has been deleted. Customers have been transferred to the Telecom Go Prepaid Network and they can chose to continue with Telecom and enjoy the same 'no top-up and non-expiry' benefits that they had before,” Mr Jesudason said.
“As a welcome gift, Freedom customers who chose to stay with Telecom will also receive a $50 credit on their mobile phone.
“Customers are not obliged to stay with Telecom and are free to choose another mobile network if they wish.”
Freedom customers can call Telecom on 0800 377 082 for more information about their service.
“It is with regret that the contract had to be terminated, as over the last few months Telecom attempted to assist Freedom to resolve its problems.
“However, ultimately Freedom had consistently failed to meet Telecom's invoices for the provision of services,” Mr Jesudason said.
