BENDON SAYS CONSUMERS WILL BENEFIT FROM BRA TARIFF REMOVAL
Bendon has today applauded the government’s decision to remove import tariffs on bras.
Bendon managing director, Hugo Venter, said the decision will inevitably lead to better prices and better value products for the New Zealand consumer.
“For some months importers and distributors have been under pressure because of the weak New Zealand dollar and rising fuel prices. We are confident that once we have had an opportunity to work through the impact of this on our business, consumers will benefit,” Mr Venter said.
New pricing structures will be established once the company has had an opportunity to work with its retail customers, he added.
Bendon’s reaction follows an announcement from acting minister of commerce, Trevor Mallard, that import tariffs on bras will be removed due to the lack of locally made bras. Mr Mallard also stated that he hoped consumers would see a decrease in the price of bras following tariff removal.
“We also expect that New Zealand consumers will experience lower prices as a result of the decision,” Hugo Venter said. “It will enable Bendon to add value to its garments through greater product innovation, raw material sourcing and design development. Whatever way you look at it, consumers will benefit.”
Bendon was established in New Zealand in 1947. It has six brands – Elle Macpherson Intimates, Macpherson Men, Bendon, Hickory, Fayreform and Hey Sister!
