AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND – April 26, 2000 – ACNielsen eRatings.com, a venture between ACNielsen Corporation (NYSE: ART) and NetRatings, Inc., (NASDAQ: NTRT), today announced that 55 clients in New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and Ireland have subscribed to the Nielsen//NetRatings Internet audience measurement service in the first quarter. Top-line Nielsen//NetRatings information on Internet audience activity in those five countries will be available by the end of the month.
New clients include such leading agency, corporate and Internet companies as Yahoo!, Procter & Gamble Europe, Turner International, H.J. Heinz Co., BBC World Service, Bank of New Zealand, J. Sainsbury, Bank of Ireland, Thomas Cook, McCann Erickson, Ogilvy Interactive and Singapore Cable Vision. Including the U.S., the Nielsen//NetRatings service now has more than 300 clients worldwide.
Commenting on the clients signing in the first quarter of this year, Michael P. Connors, vice chairman of ACNielsen, said: “Our considerable success in the global market is a vote of confidence in the ACNielsen brand and in the unmatched quality of information provided by Nielsen//NetRatings. We’re proud to have signed 55 top-name clients outside the U.S. who believe in our service enough to have subscribed prior to delivery of the service.”
Nielsen//NetRatings, the leading source of Internet audience, usage and advertising measurement, intends to quickly become the global currency for Internet measurement. ACNielsen eRatings.com announced the service in New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, the U.K., and Ireland in late 1999 and has rapidly established representative panels in the months since using high-quality, random digit dial methodology. In total, Nielsen//NetRatings Internet measurement panels now have 95,000 individuals under real-time measurement in the U.S., Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, the UK, and Ireland.
The Nielsen//NetRatings service will continue to aggressively expand coverage by launching in 12 additional countries in Europe, Asia Pacific, Latin America and North America, with local information expected to be available later this year. These additional countries are Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Hong Kong, Brazil and Canada.
Based on this rollout schedule, by the end of 2000 Nielsen//NetRatings will measure over 80 percent of the world’s Internet audience. The service will continue to expand its coverage in 2001, measuring over 90 per cent of the world's Internet audience in over 30 countries by the end of that year.
Connors also noted that ACNielsen eRatings.com has contracted more than U.S.$1 million in annual revenue in the first quarter. “We have achieved tremendous business momentum since announcing our global Internet measurement service late last year. We are extraordinarily pleased with the relevant international information Nielsen//NetRatings has captured, and we are confident this will help our clients better understand global Internet usage and emerging Web-based trends.”
