Court Upholds i4free's Injunction Against Telecom
Today's court decision to uphold i4free's injunction against Telecom is a great win for New Zealand and New Zealanders says i4free Chief Executive Officer Annette Presley.
"Clearly we're thrilled at the result, not just for us as a small independent Free Internet Service Provider, but for the opportunity that the decision now presents for New Zealand to begin recovering the ground it has been losing against other countries in the Internet environment.
"We are now looking forward to working with Telecom to give all New Zealanders the option of access to free Internet and e-mail Services that people in other countries have had for some time.
"While the substantive hearing on the issue will take some time, the key thing is that Telecom now has to treat all companies like us in an even-handed manner right throughout New Zealand and cannot discriminate against i4free.
"That means we can get on with our role of being the 'people's ISP' and servicing our customers."
"The public have been giving us fantastic support. Over the past two weeks I have been almost overwhelmed by the level of encouragement we have been receiving. We have received over 8,000 e-mails of support."
"People have not just been signing up they have been e-mailing their support and wishing us luck. Clearly they have seen this as a watershed issue in the development of a truly competitive telecommunications market in New Zealand
"Those many New Zealanders who feel they have been held to ransom in the past will see today's judgement as vindicating their desire to use the Internet free of the many costs they have traditionally faced in this country. We're now looking forward to giving them what they clearly want in the most effective way possible."
