COMPAQ FOOLS WITH FLAPTOP COMPUTER
The mind-boggling array of computer innovations has provided fertile ground for an April Fools joke by Compaq.
The Compaq Flaptop, featuring a multi-purpose folding screen made from Elasto-Glass was advertised in Saturday press as
the company’s newest product.
Claiming to have been developed in answer to survey findings that executive travellers consider portable computer
screens too small, the Flaptop provides a screen that folds out to four times its original size.
Elasto-Glass technology allegedly enables the user to angle the computer screen at a 90 –120 degree angle to ensure
complete privacy – particularly useful for in-flight use and playing computer games at work!
Versatility is another Compaq Flaptop advantage. It can fold down to a practical work surface or attractive picnic
table.
Closer inspection of the website (www.compaq.co.nz/flaptop) reveals that the Flaptop can even be used to create hi-tech
origami.
According to Compaq’s Marketing Director, Peter Wogan, the New Zealand public enjoys sharing a joke.
“Previous Compaq April Fool’s jokes have been well received. Our imagination and love of new technology provide fertile
ground for this type of hoax,” he said.
