Peace Software Teams With Siebel Systems To Deliver Web-Based Customer Service Solution For The Deregulated Energy
Market
Auckland, 21 March 2000 – Auckland-based Peace Software, and US based Siebel Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SEBL), the world’s
leading supplier of eBusiness application software, today announced an alliance to provide the energy market with a
complete web-based customer service management system, Energy CIS. Peace is the leading provider of web-based Customer
Information Systems (CIS) for the deregulated energy market.
As competition increases through deregulation of the industry world-wide, energy companies are relying on the Internet
in order to service customers more effectively. “In the United States alone, fourteen states have already opened up
their energy markets to competition, and utility companies are looking to service their customers over the Internet to
reduce corporate costs and improve customer service,” said Patrick Hodges, utilities analyst, Frost and Sullivan.
“Peace’s Energy CIS, the recipient of the Frost and Sullivan 1998 Market Engineering Entrepreneurial Company Award, and
Siebel eEnergy offer a powerful solution for utility companies looking to upgrade their IT systems to compete in today’s
market.”
Peace Software has joined the Siebel Alliance Program as a software partner and will integrate its web-based Energy CIS
with Siebel eEnergy to offer the energy industry a complete customer information management solution.
Energy CIS offers advanced customer management and billing functionality for deregulated needs, including integrated
enrolments, trading, settlements and profitability analysis, all driven by a 3-D web browser. Siebel eEnergy provides
companies with integrated sales, marketing, service and eCommerce applications to manage customer relationships. In
combination, the products will offer utility companies and energy providers the full complement of customer servicing
capabilities and enable them to better compete in a deregulated market.
“With more than eight years experience in the deregulated utility market world-wide, Peace’s Energy CIS system is the
market leader for web-based customer service,” said Brian Peace, chief executive and founder, Peace Software. “Our
alliance with Siebel Systems will expand the breadth of technology and services we offer our mutual customers, enabling
them to more efficiently and cost-effectively manage their customer relationships to remain competitive in a deregulated
environment.”
“Siebel eEnergy and Peace’s Energy CIS, offer a compelling, state-of-the-art solution for the energy market,” said Jim
McCray, director, Siebel Communications and Energy. “In addition to technical collaboration, we will team with Peace on
sales and marketing opportunities to leverage the experience of web-based solutions, utility deregulation and the energy
industry in general.”

Peace Software’s Energy product is a comprehensive information system designed to meet and anticipate the needs of
energy retailers in deregulated markets. Energy includes the functions energy service providers need to operate
successfully in deregulated markets, including customer enrolment, call centre customer care, Internet customer service,
accounts receivable, integrated residential and industrial customer billing, consolidated billing or commodity-only
billing, billing of other products and services, demand forecasting and demand settlements.
Energy is unique in providing energy consumers with online, 24-hour Internet access to their account details. It also
enables them to ask questions, request products and services, analyse their energy usage for any historical period, and
to explore detailed 3-D demand and price profiles utilising Peace’s Java and VRML browser data visualisation technology.
Technological leadership is critical to the product’s success. For instance, Energy’s innovative Browser User Interface
(BUI) adds tremendous value to the call centre. It leverages the usability and familiarity of the web browser to
accelerate training effectiveness, integrate database information presentation with business processes and allows other
information sources to support the delivery of consistent, quality customer service.
Energy uses a flexible and sophisticated, multi-tier, Enterprise Java Beans and CORBA object architecture to deliver
functionality without compromising the transaction-processing scalability essential to support the largest customer
databases.
