AUCKLAND, March 17 2000: ACNielsen eRatings.com is adding Latin America to its global Internet tracking service through
an alliance with Brazilian firm IBOPE Media Information. This announcement comes as the company prepares to release
initial New Zealand data in eight weeks time, delivering the first research on Internet audiences, advertising and user
activity in New Zealand.
ACNielsen eRatings.com’s expansion into Latin America is driven by the strong projected growth of Internet usage in the
region, where the number of Internet users is projected to grow from 9 million in 1999 to nearly 38 million by 2003.
“Latin America is a largely untapped market for the Internet,” says Brian Milnes, Managing Director Asia Pacific,
ACNielsen eRatings.com. “With exponential growth forecast for the region over the next five years, businesses need
critical information about who’s online, where they’re going, what ads they’re viewing and clicking on, and how much
time they spend online. Nielsen//NetRatings delivers this with the benefit of context with other media measurement and
analytical services.”
Plans call for the Nielsen//NetRatings service to measure the activity of more than 90 per cent of the world’s Internet
users by the end of 2001. The Nielsen//NetRatings service is currently established in the U.S. and will soon begin
reporting audience information in New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Japan, UK, France, and Ireland.
“This joint venture extends the reach of our global service to an important region for Internet usage and takes another
major step toward establishing a true global currency for Internet measurement,” says Milnes. “ACNielsen eRatings.com
will cover more than 30 countries and 90% of the world’s Internet users in under two years time.”
Nielsen//NetRatings tracks the entire spectrum of Internet user behaviour. It combines ACNielsen's global reach and gold
standard research methodology with NetRatings superior technology to deliver Internet usage information and analytical
services in context with other media measurement.
ACNielsen eRatings.com is a venture between ACNielsen and NetRatings. ACNielsen is the global leader in delivering
market research, information and analysis to the consumer products and services industries, and NetRatings is the
leading provider of Internet audience measurement technology and analysis. Through the Nielsen//NetRatings service,
ACNielsen eRatings.com is creating the first global service for tracking audiences, advertising and user activity on the
Internet in more than 30 countries worldwide.
IBOPE, a privately held Brazilian firm, is engaged primarily in media measurement, consumer panel, public opinion
