It's "Bash Time" Again!
The New Zealand electronics industry is once again being represented on the annual Variety Club Bash by Dennis Chapman
and his motley crew - "The Flashers". (* See bottom of page).
As usual they will be giving out posters advertising electronics careers to every school on and around the Bash route -
and to every child they see.
One of The Flashers - Marion Rogers, Chief Navigator, - says this year’s Bash is going to be “huge”.
“In addition to the normal New Zealand entrants, we have 19 Australian “Bash” vehicles ready to roll with us,” Rogers
says.
“This is The Millennium Bash - starting in Dunedin on 10th March and ending in Auckland on Saturday 18th March.
“Do watch out for us on Saturday as we come through Auckland,” she says.
“We will end up at the America’s Cup Village at around 4pm on Saturday March 18.”
As in the past the "Flashers" are sponsoring themselves and as Marion puts it, the team is “working for the future of
all your companies” in the electronics industry.
How's that?
“Well.....No kids interested in electronics equals no staff further down the track,” she says.
“While the "Flashers" are happy to sponsor the electronics industry by paying for themselves, we nevertheless would like
to think that all companies who will benefit from this exposure down the track could give us a little money for the
Variety Club of New Zealand,” Marion says.
“Our own sponsorship is not cheap - we pay $7000 to put the team into the event - half of which goes straight to the
Variety Club - and the other half pays the local communities for our meals.
“We also pay for our own accommodation and vehicle running expenses for both Zeppo and our support wagon.
“The Variety Club helps needy kids and even the smallest amount makes a difference. ”
Marion Rogers says last year $598,000 was raised on the Bash and it is hoped to do even better this year.
“Please give us your loose change. For every $3 you will be given a Bash heart to be worn on your sleeve for the
children of New Zealand.”

Electronics Industry Supports Variety Club Bash
Last year the supplier of CB radios for the Bash fell over at the last minute.
As a result, many officials along the route of the event were left without communications - not a desirable situation,
as anyone knows who has had anything to do with the organisation of a motor rally or car club gymkhana.
This year, Power Corruption Control has organised the permanent donation of 20 CB radios to the Variety Club - through
the auspices of Dick Smith Electronics and Uniden.
“Well done guys!” says Marion Rogers. “It will make our life much safer and easier along the way. Thanks a whole heap.”
