New Zealand Writers Web-site Taps into Niche Recruitment Market
A web-site for New Zealand writers is attracting work from editors, publishers and recruiters worldwide.
The work ranges from commissioned features on NZ agricultural practices, tourism and trade for US trade magazines; to commissioned short stories, book reviews and novels; to requests for editors and ghostwriters to improve the quality and marketability of written work.
According to Dr Nicole Bishop, who developed the strategy and concept of the site,
"The web is a perfect medium for linking buyers and sellers of both goods and services. The early success of the auction site, E-Bay.com and the online consultancy service brokers, ExpertMarketPlace.com, are excellent examples of this.
"There is a growing demand for niche recruitment sites that focus on particular industries. A big problem on the web is information overload, and there is a demand for services that reduce and focus these large quantities information. Because of this smaller, industry-specific on-line recruitment sites can be more valuable for both jobseekers and employers than the larger, more diffuse ones."
The Writerfind (NZ) web-site lists New Zealand freelance writers - including authors, business writers, technical writers, freelance journalists, researchers and editors - who pay a small annual fee to be listed and to receive assignment leads regularly via email. There is also an on-line form for posting assignments.
Launched in November 1998, the Writerfind (NZ) site is attracting a growing audience, and is currently receiving thousands of visits a week.
Nicole Bishop, who is developing, maintaining and marketing the site, has a background as a university lecturer, writer, researcher and web-developer.
The Writerfind (NZ) web-site is located at: http://www.writerfind.com
