MAINLAND PRODUCTS LTD MEATS DIVISIN ANNOUNCES VOLUNTARY RECALL OF ONE DELI MEAT PRODUCT
Mainland Products Ltd Meats Division announced that it is voluntarily recalling all FRASERS SILVERSIDE deli meats that
may contain Listeria bacteria. The recalled products are only FRASERS brand SILVERSIDE deli meats available only through
supermarket service deli's. This product should no longer be available in stores. Nationwide recall notices will appear
in Friday morning (18 February) newspapers.
The Ministry of Health has tested samples of FRASERS SILVERSIDE deli meat and found Listeria bacteria to be present. The
affected product has been isolated to one production batch, but to avoid any confusion the company has stopped sales of
all FRASERS SILVERSIDE deli meats and recalling any products which have been purchased by consumers. There have been two
reports of illness potentially linked to the affected FRASERS SILVERSIDE deli meat product.
No other FRASERS meat products are part of the recall, and consumers should not be unduly alarmed if they have eaten any
other FRASERS meat products.
The company is co-operating fully with the Ministry of Health.
"Our first and foremost concern is the safety of our customers. We are doing everything possible to ensure the
consumers' well-being and the integrity of our products," said Park Beede, General Manager of Marketing for Mainland
Products Ltd.
Customers who have purchased FRASERS SILVERSIDE deli meat recently should not eat this product and should contact
FRASERS meat products for a replacement voucher or full refund. Consumers with questions about the recalled product can
call 0508-624-652 toll free any time of day or night.
The Listeria bacteria is widespread and commonly found in the environment, including soil, water and raw foods such as
uncooked meats and vegetables. Some strains of Listeria can cause listeriosis, which affects primarily the elderly,
pregnant women, newborns and adults with weakened immune systems.
