FOREST SALES BY FORESTMARKETS.COM
A SPECIALIST forest marketing company - possibly a world first - was launched today in Palmerston North.
"forestmarkets.com(tm) represents commercial forests throughout New Zealand to buyers throughout the world," says
company director Peter Read.
Utilising an interactive Internet site to promote forest sales, the company assists owners of substantial forests of any
age (in the $ half million plus value range) in marketing their asset within New Zealand and globally.
Today's launch is the culmination of over six years planning and research by Mr Read, who sees forestmarkets.com(tm)a
breaking new ground with its unique blend of niche marketing and diverse forestry knowledge.
"In six years I have not come across any other group or company offering the mix of services we provide:
forestmarkets.com(tm) offers powerful end-to-end marketing solutions to sellers - using proven research and the smartest
in eTechnologies," he says.
Mr Read has an extensive background in forest management, marketing and consultancy, and recently completed a research
project into marketing of commercial forest at Massey University. This included a survey of industry and investment
players from within New Zealand and overseas. He also holds the AREINZ (real estate) qualification from Massey and works
with licensed real estate agency, First National Manawatu MREINZ in forest sales - a requirement of current land law.
One major difficulty for the industry in the past has been a lack of liquidity of the forest resource, which has proven
a substantial impediment to investment. Mr Read says forestmarkets.com(tm) aims to improve liquidity of the asset,
especially for pre-mature forest, through excellence in marketing.
"Research has highlighted the pre requisites which are vital to the successful sale of a forest. These have largely been
ignored by the market in the past, leaving forest owners disappointed. Now we offer sellers of commercial forest
nationwide the complete end-to- end marketing solutions they require."
Where necessary the company engages, on behalf of clients, independent experts such as forestry, legal and business
consultants to ensure information presented to buyers is credible and unbiased. Mr Read says this essentially
pre-qualifies the sale for the buyer and contributes to a successful due diligence process.
"The nature of the market for commercial forests is essentially global and with the unprecedented uptake of Internet
technologies internationally, forestmarkets.com(tm) is well positioned to provide the ultimate in service to both
parties in the forest transaction".
Mike Lobb is the company's Website designer, with experience in software and database development. The site includes
facilities for buyers to list details of their desired forest purchase, view asset descriptions and valuation data of
forests available. In time it will be further enhanced to ensure the company's clients are well informed as to what New
Zealand and forestmarkets.com(tm) has to offer.
"We are closely aware of the changing needs of buyers and always looking on their behalf," Mr Read says.
" We are now keen to get stock on the shelf! If you're considering sale of a commercial forest asset, we would like to
talk to you".
