AUS: Death Of Sir Allen Brown

Sir Allen Brown, former Secretary to the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, died very recently in Melbourne.
Sir Allen had a distinguished career in the service of Australia especially in the post-war period.á
He was Secretary under Prime Minister Robert Menzies between 25 August 1949 and 31 December 1958.á He was previously Director-General of the Department of Post-War Reconstruction.á
>From 1959á 1965 he was Deputy High Commissioner in London, and then Ambassador to Japan from 1965á 1970.á He was then appointed Australian Commissioner of the British Phosphate Commission and the Christmas Island Phosphate Commission from 1970-1976.á Sir Allen was awarded a CBE in 1953 and made a Knight Bachelor in 1956.
