Media Release No. 40 of 1999 - 5 July 1999
Discussion Paper
The Australian Communications Authority (ACA) today announced the release of a discussion paper on the re-allocation of radiofrequency spectrum in the 500 MHz bands.
In 1997, the former Spectrum Management Agency (SMA) allocated spectrum licences in the 500 MHz band by auction. At the conclusion of the auction a number of lots remained unsold.
The ACA is now seeking public comment and expressions of interest regarding the proposed allocation.
A total of 154 lots are available in the following areas:
Northern Rivers, Newcastle, Central West NSW, Canberra South Coast, Regional Victoria, Tasmania, South West Australia, and Pilbara.
If there is sufficient interest, the ACA will conduct an auction to allocate spectrum licences. Otherwise the ACA will allocate licences by pre-determined or negotiated price to interested parties.
Public comment and expressions of interest close on Friday 30 July 1999.
