Americas Cup - Redress Hearings Set For Friday

AmericaOne, Prada Request Redress - Hearing Scheduled For Friday
AmericaOne and Prada Challenge have both lodged Requests for Redress in the wake of International Jury Decision Number 13, handed down this morning.
The requests stem from an incident prior to the start of yesterday's race between Young America and Young Australia 2000. Seconds before the five minute gun, Young America began a radio transmission to the Race Committee asking for a postponement due to equipment problems. The request was denied and Young America withdrew from the race and was towed home.
Today, following a Hearing for Redress last night, the Jury awarded redress of one point to Young America for Race Nine. In its decision, the International Jury published the following:
1. The Race Committee made an error in not considering the request for postponement by Young America.
2. It was open to the Race Committee to postpone at any time before the start signal.
3. It would not be equitable to order a re-sail that might be sailed in lighter wind strengths.
4. It is not possible to determine whether Young America could have completed temporary repairs that would have withstood the rigours of the race course, or whether they would have won the match. The redress of 'one point' reflects the likelihood of Young America winning the match based on:
- Past performance
- The likelihood of the repairs holding up for the race.
AmericaOne and Prada Challenge have each made a Request for Re-Opening of the Young America Request for Redress arising from International Jury decision Number 13. The hearings are scheduled to start on 1800 hours on Friday, November 19, 1999
