Auckland's Millennium celebrations are proving a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the city's amateur dramatic community. Many of our most colourful and flamboyant performers are lining up to take part in the main New Year's Eve event in the Domain 'This Is It'.
A theatrical extravaganza on a grand scale 'This Is It' will map out the history of the world over the past 2000 years, requiring a huge range of talent to depict key historic scenes.
'This Is It' casting director Helen Langford says more than 700 Aucklanders have volunteered their performing talents to date, including dancing groups, singers, actors, puppeteers, professional entertainers - and some surprise acts.
Among the key groups so far enrolled is the 'Legio II Augusta' medieval and ancient re-enactment society - renowned for battle re-enactments with authentic armour and weaponry.
The popular 'Hash House Harriers' will fill another major role in the theatrical saga, with members representing the human race at important times in history.
Helen Langford says they are particularly looking for males to participate in the core cast of about 80, with all-comers considered, regardless of age.
"The only condition is that they are passionate about performance and joining a show which will be televised around the world from the first major city to celebrate the new milennium."
Individuals and groups interested in becoming part of 'This Is It' should call the audition line
