Child Porn At Pare-Max?

Published: Fri 15 Oct 1999 05:40 PM
Auckland Corrections Officers swoops on computers at Auckland Prison today after allegations that prisoners were viewing child porn.
The computers were confiscated.
An anonymous letter was received by Auckland Prison manager, Bret Bestic. The letter claimed a prison officer at Paremoremo Maximum Security Prison had smuggled computer disks programmed with porn and passed the disks on to prisoners.
Prisoners are given access to computers if they can show their education and rehabilitation can be enhanced by the experience. The prison computers cannot link up to the internet as they do not have modems installed.
Around 12 computers were seized. Police computer forensic experts have been called to track the histories within the computers and to investigate the allegations.
