Aucklanders Will Be presented With a dazzling America's Cup Parade Tonight, but security surrounding the Auld Mug will be high.
Organisers are determined that it remain intact for the eventual winners of the Americas cup challenger/Defender Series next year.
Three year's ago Manurewa man, Ben Nathan, smashed the Americas Cup trophy with a hammer, citing his actions as a means to highlight Maori indigenous rights and the Tino-Rangitiratanga movement in New Zealand.
The protest did just that. CNN ran detailed coverage of the attack for days and the New York Times detailed events which lead to Nathan attack.
Nathan was later jailed for the attack. Security around the Auld Mug has been high ever since.
The silver-steined Trophy will be flanked by security and police as it is taken through Auckland's streets.
Around 1000 yachting competitors will be lead by Team New Zealand, who currently holds the cup. The parade will make its way from Mayoral Drive to the Viaduct Basin.
The event will officially mark the opening of the America's Cup regatta.
