Major points from the morning briefing 08.09.99
Traffic The Major Issue For Police At Present. Reiterated earlier press release that people should start making plans
for road disruptions on Tuesday given the likelihood of leaders staying the extra night.
Possible alternatives will be the same as those previously advised to people for disruptions on the Monday, such as
staying at home if work allows, taking time in lieu, getting to work extra early and leaving late.
Motorways will be closed when leaders' motorcades go through and this will disrupt traffic on the days when movements to
the airport occur.
Advise people to read the New Zealand Herald supplement in today's paper. It sets out very well the types of disruptions
people can expect and gives maps etc.
Police also repeated that they have no problems with lawful protests, including possible farmers' protests on tractors,
as long as they are lawful and peaceful. Police are always planning for contingencies and this includes security issues
that may be related to the Indonesian delegates.
Whether security will be increased on Indonesian delegates is an issue that Police will not discuss further.
