Auckland City Council - City Scene
Auckland City now holds and manages government' valuations, including the land and capital values that were previously
the sole domain of Valuation New Zealand.
The move is the result of the Rating Valuations Act 1998, which gave responsibility for maintaining District Valuation
Rolls to local authorities and disbanded the government department, Valuation New Zealand.
Manager of Valuation for Auckland City, Gilbert van Schaijik, says people may now get three figures when they ask
Council for a property value. They are:-
* the land value which assesses the value of the land without buildings
* the capital value which assess land plus buildings
* the annual rental value which is used by Auckland City to apportion rates. Together they are called 'rating
valuations'.
"All three values are between two and three years old now. They will be updated in November when Auckland City completes
its current revaluation of the City."
Rating valuations are available from Auckland City's main offices, the Property Information counter at Auckland City
Environments in Graham Street or the Civic Service Centre on the ground floor of the Auckland City Civic Building in
Greys Avenue.
Valuations can be given over the telephone for a limited number of properties - Ph 379 2020.
While information on the public valuation roll is free, there is a charge for printed and certified copies of entries on
the valuation rolls. Mr van Schaijik says there are also charges for value-added information packages, one of which
contains (including floor area and construction details), and the other the sales information.
